Secotan visit

One afternoon 3 canoes full of Indians are spotted heading towards the fort. As they are unidentified the alarm bell is sounded. As they get closer, Chief Wingina and Manteo, are recognized. Manteo translates between the parties. The Indians have brought 2 large pots of fish stew to help the colonists and invite some of the leaders to come to their village the following day to discuss ‘stuff’.

If asked about the missing grain, the Indians deny any involvement (which is the truth). The real thief (who took the one bag) will make fun of them and claim they are lying. Manteo will not translate this to Chief Wingina.

After a short time the Indians get back in their canoes and leave. Looking closer at the stew the colonists notice it’s very watery…maybe the Indians are short of food too.
